Snow Pug

A big blustery blizzard blew in to Minneapolis today and Walter loves the snow. His boot works so well on ice...I wish I had three more to protect his other feet! I have been working on a deadline (what's new??) and unable to get to the blog in awhile, but for us that's a good thing in a way, we're in a steady (albeit intense) routine and Walter's chugging along getting stronger every day.

We're going to have to head south soon, hopefully just after Christmas. The cold weather isn't good for walter's pins, so We're looking for a place to live somewhere warm, or at least warmer. (ten degrees below zero all week here!) I wish I'd had more time to figure out where to go. Right now I feel like just packing wally up in the car, driving south. We're definitely open to suggestions, if anyone has any. We sort of need a miracle. ;)

Ok, so Indianapolis isn't warm by any means. BUT you will have lots of friends here in Indy to pet Walter and hang out if you make it a pit stop along the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you stop by Georgia I could meet Walter. If you go to Florida, depending on the route I could meet you some place along the way as you usually have to go through Georgia.

:D

Maybe you could get some booties for Walter's feet. I heard that the salt can be bad for paws (not sure, we don't have snow in Georgia too often--so no salts happpen.)

You should move down here to Florida! I know a couple of pugs in Panama City that would love a new friend ;) Plus the housing market dropped DRASTICALLY and it's a buyers market! And who doesn't want to live by the beach?!? Perfect opportunity for water therapy!

Hi Heather & Wally Boy!

Oh, I know I have said it before, but that header picture of your pug mug just makes me melt!

It's 12 degrees right now in Oklahoma... so I am not sure if that is warm enough. I'd really like you gusy to come here, but I feel I should warn you about how boring it is around here too. Gosh, I am not a very good ambassador for my state, am I!?

If I were given the chance to move somewhere south... I'd be in Florida! WOOHOO!

I wanted to thank you for your suggestion about the cranberry supplement! It's funny you said that because I have been researching some holistic and preventative solutions this week. In fact, I am questioning the whole Science Diet food and have been looking into homemade dog food. (Yes, I am that crazy and would home-make Pearl's food! haha!)
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to research that for me. You guys are the best!

Bundle up, sugar!!!

I'm south of you, though not by much, and it's brrrrrrrr cold here, too! A whopping 3 degrees this morning! I hope you find somewhere warm to go for Walter -- Florida might be good. I was just there last week and it was "cool" -- in the 50s and 60s. It's great to see Walter out in the snow with his shoe, but yeah, those other little tootsies gotta be cold! Go Walter!!

We were watching the news with mom this morning and the weather dude said Miami was 85 degrees. That's pretty warm compared to the rest of the country.

How wonderful that you love Walter so much to move where it's warmer. Good luck in finding the perfect place for you both!

I wish Indianapolis was warmer, you could come and stay with us. We agree with Pug(s) and Bugg - When you head south, if you happen to come near Indy and want to make a pit stop, you & Walter would be welcomed with open arms/paws.

I say Miami! The weather is pug-perfect right now. Not too cold, not too hot and breezy. And there's a lot of pet friendly places to visit!

I wish I lived south so I can say come on down and stay with us. But nope.. I live in Vancouver where it has been o to -5 all week wtih snow coming this weekend.

You can buy (well atleast here) booties in walmart.

Thanks! Gus's jacket is actually from a local equestrian shop that makes mini horse blankets for dogs. I wanted one for Indy too but they don't really cover their stomachs.

Until you get somewhere warmer, here in Toronto we use balloons as doggy boots. Just cut off the top tight part and slip them over the tootsies. I've bought all kinds of boots $$$ (salt on the sidewalks is a big problem downtown Toronto and pug feet need protecting) My pug likes balloons the best - just buy a bag from the dollar store 9" to 12" fit fine. Just make sure you buy colours to coorindate with their coats. Glad to hear Walter is doing so well. Your blog always makes me tear up - and sometimes I'm surrounded by co-workers at the office!

I just buy a bag at the dollar store and cut off the tight part at the top - cut just where it starts to round out. I buy the 9" or 12" party balloon size - just make sure they coordinate with pug's winter coat. Glad to here Walter is doing so well - he looks fabulous! Your blog always makes me tear up - sometimes when I'm surrounded by my co-workers!

Oh we got a blizzard too! It is definitely not any warmer here in Canada, but I hope you find another warm place that you love!
I just LOVE that picture of Walter at the top of your blog.

We live in central Florida between Tampa and Orlando. Summers are horrible with the mosquitoes and humidity but what we call winter is great. If you live near the Gulf coast or the ocean side of the state you may have to worry about hurricanes but not too bad inland. Come on down!

I would suggest Chattanooga. It's beautiful, and I know all the local dog places! Mom says there are lots of coffee shops and visual inspirations for writers (don't know what that means...) It's handy to Nashville and Atlanta, as if you would need to leave!!!

Hi Walter
I am so happy to see you out in the snow modeling your little shoe.
Mom and I saw doggy boots at Wilco- a farm store. They were cute looking. Sled doggies wear boots too.
In Oregon- we have been at 8 degrees and the pipes are FROZEN.
Now what? This weekend starting Saturday is supposed to be freezing rain!
Is that too cold? I wish it was warmer. I am ready for Florida.
Walter - you could not get any cuter- nope - not a bit!

Hi Heather and Walter,

We have been following this blog now for a few months and have been inspired by the indomitable spirit of pugs. While it is extremely cold here today in New York City, it is also one of the friendliest dog places on the planet and Nala and I would welcome a new pug friend any day!

Your quote is one that I have used before myself and is perhaps one of the best out there to describe one's relationship with a dog.

Best of luck in your search for a new home and with Wally's recovery.

The weather is pretty mild here in Virginia Beach/Norfolk, VA! We haven't seen snow in a few years, and while we have seasons, it never gets really really cold in the winter. Today is a very "cold" day for us because it's not going to get above 50...so...you know. Norfolk is a fun city and the ocean is real close by and the country farms are just a few minutes away :)

We hope you too get somewhere warms soon! Virginia Beach isn't bad but Florida would be perfect for a pug in the winter time. Tuni wears a fleece jacket here in the winter time though, silly little pugger.
