Sprained Ankle?!?!?!?
Walter and I stayed up all night. He couldn't get comfortable and he was limping badly, favoring his right rear leg. He kept getting off the bed and looked for a semi-private place to lay down so I built him a fort. I fashioned it after a dogs den...but with a wicker basket and my heated lavender scented eye pillow. I put his water bowl right next to him so he wouldn't have to walk far for water.
That at least made him somewhat comfy...The above pic is while we're waiting for the vet's to open. His expression is one of worry and uncertainty of my ability to fix the situation. (The below pic is after we came home.) The vet said it wasn't his luxating patella, and he couldn't find any tear or wound in the feet, and there was no fracture or broken bones...so that left a sprain that could have happened "anywhere."
How on earth does a pug who's waited on hand and foot all day sprain his ankle? Doc thought maybe when we were out walking. That reminded me of the evil grate near our house! It's a sewer grate that is almost imperceptible to the eye when covered with snow. I wonder if wally twisted his ankle there. I got anti-inflammatory's and pain killers for Walter, so he's finally able to sleep, as shown below.
A word of caution for all dog owners: the doc told me if your pet is limping, something is wrong and your pet absolutely needs a trip to the vet. Limping is a sign of pain and there's no cause for any dog to be in pain. The meds were cheap, the Tramadol (pain killers) was $13.00 and the Rimadyl (anti-inflammatory) was also $13.00. Also, most vets, like mine, offer payment options (pay over time) so don't fear the vet bill!
I wish Walter could tell me what the hell happened. If it wasn't the evil grate, What did he do? Roll off the couch while sunbathing? wrench a paw while batting his cat toys around the house? I feel like installing security cameras all over the house so I can keep more careful track of him.
Wally is now on the mend!

Walter started limping today, I have no idea why. His paws look okay! We are going to the vet in the morning! The above is NOT walter, as he is sleeping peacefulyl right now and I do not want to disturb him. He'll be mad enough at me in the morning as it is.

BEDBUG PUG
chair dog
I am embarking on novel #3, (Jennifer Johnson is finished!) So wally is back in my chair, looking adorable while digging his feet into my backside. Huge house, tons of dog beds, blankets, pillows etc...but Wally wants to sit in my chair with me. Okay, I sort of love it, but I get tired of sitting on the edge of the chair and my bak hurts. I need a chair with a sidecar.

Shocking Three Way!
Oh yeah baby...we got all the good stuff in one place. Can you dig it? Poh-Lee, Pengie and the fancy dog bed he only just started using right now in this way to accomodate both his loves...life is good in the three-way lane.
I just love looking at Walter, so peaceful and serene. Sometimes when I'm not having a good day, it helps to make sure Walter is having one.

Pengie
It's turning to winter and getting pretty dry here. Wally has trouble breathing sometimes when it's dry, he'll wake up in the dead of night wheezing through his nose. So I bought a penguin humidifier for the bedroom only to find out walter is transfixed with it. We call it "Pengie" now. He likes to kiss it and stare deeply into it's misty eyes, while soothing clouds of love drift by. I think it feels good on his nose too.

DIS bear ain't got no riddim....
I bought wally a new bear, in anticipation for when Poh-lee dies an (un)natural death. You can see how much he loves it. He reminds me of my Jamaican friend who said (of Minnesota) "Heatha- dis place ain't got no riddim." A beautiful way to phrase so very many things. Sorry Wally, momma will try harder, but lets remember how you first reated to Poh-lee...

My Russian Boyfriend
Okay, I'm the one who looks Russian in my new old man's winter hat...but Walter has the stoic countenance of a communist Bureaucrat, no? Today we went to the hardware store and Wally sat very nicely in the shopping cart. Only on the way out did I notice the "No Dogs" sign. What?? Who says there are no dictatorships in America! There's plenty!

So Long Pardner
Walter somehow knows when I'm getting ready to leave well in advance of me walking through the door. A shower is the first red flag. Then clothing. (okay, some days I work from home in my pyjamas. Maybe most days.) THEN if i put makeup on, I get this look, I call it the "I can't believe you're doing this to me" look. Then after I leave he sits in the window and gazes folornly out, letting all who pass by what a maltreated orphan he is. Sigh.

Putting Walter to Bed
We moved, and bought a big sleigh bed, which is lovely but far too tall for Wallymon to jump up on to. So I bought him a pet ramp and had it installed alongside the far side of the bed. I love it because you can't see it when you walk into the room and Walter loves it, as it allows unhampered comings and goings as well as silent all-night treat retrievals. (See half milkbone treat on ramp in first pic)
Bun Bun has had eet.

Bun Bun is not made of marscapone, and therefore I shall not have it.
I let Walter lick a little tiny bit of marscapone from my finger today and WHAMMO! (Refer back to the mayonnaise-is-like-crack addiction blog.) Now I guess marscapone is like crack too... (little black lips, num num num!) Anyway, he's been begging me for more marscapone ALL day and we're in the process of moving and I wanted to give him some treat, and one that wasn't fattening...so I bought him a little bun-bun at the bun-bun store. You can see how much he enjoys it. He actually did grab it out of my hand at first, but only to go PA-TOOEY! and spit it out behind him so I would CONCENTRATE on his NEEDS and STOP with the freaking bun-bun! Anyway, this is their forced protrait.
Sigh.
Sigh.

Long Trip, Good Ride
Walter LOVES car rides. I think most pugs do. He wants to be up front, watching the road, alerting me through high-pitched rapid barking about approaching motorists, pedestrians, dogs, trees, squirrels, mosquitoes, lint etc... He likes to bark when he sees something. ANY something. So its sort of nice when we take longer rides and the lil guy falls asleep. especially when we go to the lake, and he has to be valiant all over again, and bark at the sea. I think in Wally Wisdom World, this means, rest up, cause it'll be dukes up soon enough...

Captain Pug
YES! Satisfaction! The nice pug owner of Pugboat emailed me:
Heh, Walter! We just saw you have our PugBoat on your blog!!!! Yes, we are Pug possessed. Our bf Linda came out on our boat with us. We have four Pugs...Chloe, Zoey, Rosie and Marty and she has four Pugs...Spanky, Dakota, Isabella and Dixie Rose! You can visit my blog pugpossessed.blogspot.com for more pictures of the crazy day and our crazy pug filled lives.
Walter loves the water too...maybe they are the real tunas of the sea.
Pug Boat
This is the kind of photo that makes me desperately want to know the rest of the story. I mean, I don't know whats going on in Webster, New York, but I guess we're moving there...because this looks like heaven. Thanks Linda on Pugslife.com for posting it! Wish I knew what in the sam heck was going on that this many chunky-monkies would all be on the pug boat. Are they all yours? Is this like a traveling rescue pug boat? Maybe one of those Doctors Without Borders type deals, where these brave squad-o-pugs storm unsavory ports around the globe spreading good cheer and fishy kisses? Arghhhhhh. I must know.
Beddie-Bye
Walter and I tumble into bed at all times at night, usually with magazines, cell phones, frozen food dinners and dog treats (my sheets are filled with crumbly milk bone bits) We fall asleep sometimes with the lights still on, and this shot was somehow taken on my cell phone camera last night...either by a ghost or Walter stretching in his sleep. My bet is ghost, as Walter sleeps waaay too deeply to bother moving.

Walter staring at me.
This is an example of walter staring at me. He wants something, but it's up to me and my telepathic powers to find out what. Here we're in the car and so it could be he wants to go the park, or get ice cream. Probably both. Maybe he's decided the lambskin throw he's standing on is insufficient for his posterior and I should get him a different one. One things for sure, whatever I'm supposed to be doing, I'm not doing it fast enough.

Tragi-Wally
This poor orphan was rescued from a favella in western Minnesota. The conditions were atrocious. There was no bottled spring water or lightly grilled chicken breasts to be found on the premises and the eiderdown comforter was out at the cleaners. Such a tragedy. Luckily for this poor boy, help has arrived. He's been whisked to a pug rehabilitation center where is receiving gourmet lunches and a pedicure. (Just kidding. It's walter after a bath.)

Lake Dreaming
Walter and I went on a nice walk by the lake to clear our heads. Well, I cleared my head and he cleared his nether regions. He had macaroni and cheese for dinner last night and man-o-man, I don't think that sat well with him. Still, as Wallingford has taught me, one can always stop and pause reflectively on the beauty of the world in between bouts of distinct messiness.
