Fally Wally

Here is fally-wally standing in the leaves outside the house after we got back from errands. He wasn't even tired!

Walter and I had a big day. We had a huge water therapy session and went to Petsmart and chucks and LuLu's to buy various treats all you wonderful adorable people have gotten him addicted to...(yogurt kisses! Fat free cookie monster treats! beef bites! etc...) Which reminds me, THANK YOU to Jennifer and Maxwell Sneed, who sent the cutest pug stationary and most delicious (according to walter) gourmet doggie cookies and home made cheesey treats! He quivers when he smells them...I tried to take photos while he opened the box but camera was in process of breaking down. you can see by shoddy quality of todays photo I'm still waiting to replace my camera!

Anyway, the big thing about running errands today is Walter and I went TOGETHER. First time running errands together since the accident 4 1/2 months ago! Walter wore his little shoe, and I tried to shop while every salesperson/pet store employee/passerby/dog lover/complete stranger/human with beating heart stopped and asked, "Why is he wearing that shoe?"

I tried to keep my answers brief, but I learned today you can't really say, "he got hit by a car" without causing a group of people to start forming. Wally got kisses, treats, hugs, cuddles and it took us three hours to run some errands that should have taken one, tops!

The lady at Lulu's, Laura, who hadn't seen us since the accident, and who knew me back when I would shop in the store BEFORE I even owned a dog because "I wanted a pug someday" and who has sold me Walter's weight in treats...well when she saw us she teared up, which made me tear up and there I was, weepy in a boutique pet store.

Laura proceeded to tell another customer a story about us. She said, "My favorite story about Heather is when some love interest from California was coming to stay and she was worried about how he and Walter would get along. I saw her the next day and she told me the guy'd already gone home. It didn't work out. I asked her what happened and she just shrugged and said, "He didn't want a pug sleeping in his bed, so I took him back to the airport."

I had forgotten the story...and the guy, completely! (wouldn't you?)

LONG LIVE WALLY! KING OF THE HOUSE!

Just had to finally comment...I've been following your blog since Wally was hit by the car and must say I've cried and cheered along with you!! Love little Wally like one of my own...and def. would have sent that guy back to California! LOL!

I totally would have done the same thing with that guy. Who wants someone who doesn't love a dog totally? Dogs are great to have around when meeting people--they totally can sense things that sometimes we may not be aware of.

Ohhh I just LOVE everything about this post!
I can't imagine how good it must have felt to run around town with Wally, like old times. It must make this long journey feel so worth it to watch some things fall back to semi-normalcy... except with a renewed appreciation for it all.
I too dreamed of having a pug long before I had one. And I too would have sent that stupid guy back where he came from! There's only room for ONE manly ego in your bed, isn't that right Wally?! :)

Yeah, getting rid of the guy was a good thing. The nerve of him not wanting a pug! Pfffftttt!

I'm so glad you got to spend some time with Walter, and go out and about to get him more treats, which you realize are very very important. Grocery store shopping for your food...pffft! Yeah, when we get to it, but treat shopping for Walter, oh yeah! And how can anyone pass him up and not want to stop and say hi, and give him some love, and ask about his story. There's a connection there on a puggie level that touches the puggie soul in all humans (well, most humans, which, come to think of it says a lot about that guy!).

Heather,

I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. I like to take this way of thinking and apply it to all negative situations. By doing so it makes me realize that from negatives situations comes positive outcomes. Over 4 months ago Wally was struck by an SUV. The diagnosis was bleak. Would he survive and if so, would he walk again. This was a very negative and difficult time. Over the next 4 months however, what transpired was quite remarkable. Look at him now! Here is a picture of him standing in the dead leaves of a new season when it was not clear if he would live to see these autumn leaves. The positive outcoms to this situation already have outweighted the negative initial accident. Look at all the friends we have made. Look at all the support. Look at what we have learned from Wally. Look at all the love. We have only met you through pictures but if not for the last 4 months would I have even known who Wally was, probably not. This has taught us many lessons and made us many friends. Introduced us to new books. Introduced us to new pug friends. Enforced the need for safety. Learned about rehab therapy. That a little pug can teach us about determination and love. It has brought so many people together. May we one day meet in person face to fur. Until then we follow each others stories and posts. Hurrah for Wally way to go little pug. Hurrah for Heather for the dedication to Wally and his recovery.

And as an addendum to Lise and Winston.... it's also led to learning about a whole slew of new treats that Walter's become addicted to, treats received from many of his grateful followers. :p (little voice) oh yes, treats is important (/little voice)

Running errands is so much fun. I's glad Wally is back out there getting his own treats!

You's a smart lady to have gotten rid of that guy! Course, you love Walter, so we already knew you're smart!

Keep getting better my pug friend!

We agree with everyone kicking that guy out the door was the best decision.
Walter miracle and determination has touched a lot of people and will continue to do so.
I can IMAGINE a whole stadium full of people waiting to hear Walters story!

Walter is going to be a superstar everywhere you go, so you'd better get used to it! Any more thoughts about him being a therapy dog? His story, courage & determination would surely inspire others to fight to beat the odds!!

Reading about how far Walter has come always makes my day!!! It's still hard to believe some days just how far he has come in such a short time. You and Wally have been such an inspiration to us all. I can't wait for the Walter Takes America Tour!!!!!

That is the ultimate test, isn't it? Whether or not they want a pug in their bed? Good job bringing him back to the airport.

Anyway, so happy that you got to do errands together. Sorry they took so long, but I'm sure Wally loved every minute of it.

Great post...Both you and Walter have come a long way. We are so happy to hear that you could finally take him along with you on your shopping trip.

Who ever heard of someone not wanting to sleep in a bed with a pug??
