Cafe Wally

Walter and I took the sage advise a blogger left yesterday - take time to kiss and relax! I loaded wally up in the strollie, and we went to a nearby cafe. I read the new IKEA catalog and had a cafe latte and he had a bowl of H2O deluxe.

We got to watch the workmen building a new playground across the street, and kids walking by with their parents. We were just like anyone else then. Just a girl and her dog watching the world go by.

We weren't thinking of rehab or medical bills or that winter is coming and we don't know where to go. All that will solve itself in time. This lovely mess we're in all has to work out somehow - and I can't wait to see what the universe comes up with.

A BIG PUG HUG and prayer to Little Miss Pearl, who underwent emergency bladder surgery today! Her momma had a funny feeling about how she was acting, and dropped her off at the vet before work, only to discover Pearl needed emergency bladder surgery! We are so grateful she made it to the vets and she will recover beautifully!

Walter looks happy in that picture! Just look at that little smile coming across his face! He's out and about, not walking that treadmill in the same place, going nowhere, he's out in his strollie, sipping his water, watching the world go by, just sitting there and enjoying it all with his mom!

Go Walter and Heather!

Hi Heather & Walter! Looks like you guys got out to "stop and smell the rose" today. What a great idea!

Walter looks like he was really enjoying himself in the strollie. I really need to get one of these.

It's so good to get out and clear your head of worries. I send Mom out of the house all the time when she starts to stress. It does wonders.

Stubby xoxo

Pee-s: Please let me know if you received the card I mailed. I'm worried that it might have gotten lost in the system.

Heather and Walter!
Thanks so much for your kind words! What a crazy day!

I am so happy you two got out and enjoyed some fresh air. Sometimes you just have to force life to slow down.

I am always praying for you guys! If Walter can beat that SUV, I can surely get over this bladder saga!!

I agree with several of the other comments - Walter really looks like he is smiling, just enjoying the moment. Sounds like you were able to do the same! Great job, both of you - so nice to read!!

So glad to hear you got a down day. Sometimes you just have to ignore the rest of the world and take time for yourself. I promise you'll be glad you did =) I made changes to my comments setting, but I don't know if it'll work. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. In the meantime, know that we are thinking of you!!!

Hi Heather and Walter
The two of you looked like the real deal- out there relaxing in the world like any mom and her pug. Walter looked like he was proud of her strollie. It was good for him to see "other real life stuff too" and get his mind on something else. I bet he sleeps good tonight and has sweet dreams about all that he saw.
We always keep you both in our thoughts to keep reaching for the stars.

I'm so glad that Walter is improving so much! I've been checking daily to see his progress and I'm truly amazed by how much strength that little guy has.

Yeah, I had a big realization today. I mean a BIG one. It's weird and I don't know if you all will relate, but maybe you will.

I think a big part of my ongoing struggle with life before the accident and certainly afterwards is ANXIETY. I have let it into my life so much that it has taken over and actually made me careless.

How an a person who worries all the time be careless? I spend so much time preoccupied with what MIGHT happen, how to stop any UNSEEN DISASTERS and POSSIBLE TROUBLE that I am not actually at the wheel of my own ship!

The day Walter scooted out in the street, I can guarantee you my mind was somewhere else worrying about something else as I opened the door. I was crunching on some problem and not in the moment. Not at all.

The other problems that have cropped up recently in my life...all would have been avoided if I was paying more attention to the here and now and not the maybes on the horizon.

I have been anxious since as long as I can remember (child of early divorce, then early parental death, then stepfather divorce etc...) not to get too personal but I basically hit the ground running as a little kid being worried about everything...what would happen next, how to avoid disaster etc...and I NEVER STOPPED.

Today, stopping and sitting in the coffee shop was something significant. It felt so odd to "do nothing and not worry about anything that I actually put in an old movie later on and held walter and we watched a movie together. Just for fun. No exercising, no worrying about work, no fretting over him, just holding and watching a movie.

I have identified my enemy and it is anxiety. Better yet, I have identified my champion, and it is peace. If I am going to let peace in, I need to make room for it by letting anxiety out.

Is it painful for you guys to watch me make such elemental discoveries? It must be!! ;)

Walter, it sounds like it was a great visit to the cafe today and something that was much needed for you both. You look so content in your strollie. Actually I heard that the new Ikea catalogue is out now.... must get my paws on one and check it out too.

I am glad you had a relaxing afternoon, you two need more of those! :)

It wasn't painful at all Heather, it was a definite learning expierence for you and us sitting on the sidelines. The bonus is now that you had identified the problem, you can face head on and work on making it go away. Today was a good first step and I hope the road for you goes as smoothly as today did and as smoothly as Walter is going too. :)
