SORRY I HAD NO IDEA COMMENTS WERE TURNED OFF! TURNED ON NOW!!!!
There was 4 hours of orthopedic surgery today and Walter made it through! He has two screws and two pins in his hips thanks to the skillful Dr. Hamline of the LeVine Orthopedic group.
This is a picture of Walter just before he went into surgery. He has two IV's in his forepaw and that shaved area with a clear sticker thing is a "Pain Patch" a device that seeps painkillers right through his skin. The nurses were so good to him - The nurses call him "Handsome Walty." THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS EVERYONE!
NOW the big hurdle is Walter must fight off all the pain he's in - which is considerable and then he needs EIGHT weeks of bedrest. Anyone have any ideas how to keep a pug in his playpen for 8 weeks?
Please continue praying for us and Walter's pain management. We really need your love and good thoughts. xoxoxoxo

Oh Walter, this is awful! We don't know you and we live far away in Canada but we send wishes and you are in our prayers. Winston sends pug licks and snorts and wishes you have a speedy recovery and everything goes well after the surgery. You have just endured my worst nightmare and we think or you during this time.
So glad to hear Walter is OK!Twenty years ago when my stepfather carried our ShiTzu everywhere for weeks after knee surgery, I thought he was nuts....now I get it. We send you pug hugs and well wishes for a speedy recovery.

Hang in there, Walter, we are all pulling for you. You mommy will hold and cuddle you through the recovery period. She loves you very much!
Yayyy!! I am so glad the surgery went well. You are a tough guy, Walter! I can't believe that the picture was from yesterday. After all you've been through, you look very handsome and positive!
We have been praying for you from Miami, FL. It is pretty far, but there is no distance or boundaries for good thoughts. Now, I wish I had an advice for you during your recovery... maybe have a lot of chewies to entertain you while you try to rest? I hope your pain goes away and that you are back to your normal life very very soon.
Love,
Coco
We don't know you, but found you through a link on another blog. We are so happy to know that Walter is going to be OK. Just goes to show that you can't keep a good pug down. Will continue to say some prayers and hope that he heals fast.
Pugs & Kisses,
Yoda & Brutus
YEA!! Even in pain he looks happy!! Or maybe he is high!
Beans and I highly recommend a heated orthopedic pet bed. Make him a cage so comfortable that he doesn't want to leave. And even though I can't spell it, Gloucosimine and Chondrotin...lots of it.
Best Wishes for a Speedy Recovery!!
Emily and Beans the Pug

As far as keeping a pug in a bed for 8 weeks..umm...maybe lots of kongs??
Thank goodness the surgery turned out ok. We have been so worried ever since we saw your post from Monday! We all know that pugs (and all dogs) are more than pets to us, they are family. Please know that you are in our prayers and we know that Walter will be as good as new in no time!
Pug hugs and kisses!
Vikki and the Pug Posse

Well, if you are printing these out and reading them to Wally... read him this one!
Dear Walter,
I am Pearl. I don't know you, but I think soon we'll be the best of friends! Now I need you to listen to me sweet boy... FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT! We are PUGS, and we don't give up on anything, ok? This pain is going to be bad, but your Momma needs you, and we ALL need you, ok!? I believe in you! I will be around to throw you a party when you come home!!!
Love, your new BFF Pearl
We are so happy to hear this good news about Walter! We we stil be praying for a full healthy recovery with the pain. We are glad to see such a good picture of Wally! Keep up the faith! Pug Hugs!
We don't have any real good ideas on how to keep him in bed rest for so long. I know chewies and kongs keep my girls sationary for a few hours. Good luck!
Sequoia and Tuni
We ahve been following you for a little while now and are so glad to hear Walter is going to be ok. No clue how to keep a pug down for 8 weeks though. I had a hard enough time keeping Lilo down for 10 days when she had staples. Lots of toys, love and attention would be my best suggestion. Glad you your comments turned on!! Some of Walter's pictures are too cute no to comment on.
We'll continue sending love and kisses Walter's way and hope for a great recovery!!
I found out about your accident through another blog I've recently started following, and sent up a prayer yesterday morning. And it looks like it was answered in Walter's favor!!!! So glad you're on the road to recovery! Sending more prayers up for that pain management thing!
pugnetwork sent us over for some silent prayers. God speed Walter!
Walter looks so happy in that shot. I am so glad that the surgery went well and he is doing better.
8 weeks huh? Oh dear! Kongs, bully sticks, chewing keys? When indy was spayed her collar kept her from jumping and leaping, so maybe that will help? Does the vet have any ideas?
Sending lots of good thoughts and quick healing vibes your way!!
Lex, Gus and Indy
Walter,
We're so glad surgery went well and we're sending you positive, healthy waves your way. We'll be thinking about you over the next 8 weeks and hope that they pass by very quickly for you and that soon you are back on your feet.
Pug love from,
Pearl & Daisy

Yeahhh so Happy to hear this. I thought of Walter since I first learned of his horrible accident. Happy Healing from here on...Im sending you ((HUGS)) and Pug licks. we will be sure to pop back in often to see Walters updates!
We are very sorry to hear about Walter's accident (Coco told us). We are happy to hear that he has done well with the surgery. We will send lots and lots of pug snorts and well wishes for Walter (and you).
Roxy & Lucky
You and Walter have been in my prayers and I am thankful the surgery went well.
I was thinking (but you would have to check with the vet to be sure), maybe one of those "over the shoulder baby sacks" that we humans sometimes carry our babies in might work too for Walter in some instances and for some relief of being in a cage for such long hours.
Just a thought, and I am continuing my prayers for both you and Walter.
Susie and George
Oh thank goodness Walter is doing okay!!!! 8 WEEKS!!! Wow, good luck with that! We're just so happy for you (and him) that he made it through!
Aw, Walter looks so sweet. I am glad to hear he made it through the surgery and we are hoping for the best for a speedy recovery!
I recommend bully sticks to occupy him. :)
